Yes! To provide guided visits inside a museum or historical monument in France guides are required to hold a professional license of Guide-Conférencier. At Boutique Tours we are French State registered and accredited professional guides and hold the Carte Professionnelle. Therefore your guide is allowed to guide you both around the grounds and inside the sites! We do not drop you off at sites on your own with an audio guide. Keep in mind if you book a tour in which your guide will be leading you outside the grounds only, not inside the monument, they are most likely unqualified!
Not at all. We offer walking tours, food tours and skip the line tours of the must-see sites of Paris. For more information check out our Private Tours page. If you can’t quite find what you are looking for do write to us as we love customizing experiences just for you.
Due to high demand, bookings are required for our tours. We are committed to keeping our team & groups small to ensure the quality of your experience. As a result our groups do fill quickly, especially in the summer.
We are committed to keeping our team & groups small to ensure the quality of your experience. As a result our groups do fill quickly in the summer. We recommend that you book well in advance for all of our tours. If you have a party of four or more then we recommend that you book at least three weeks in advance in order to have your first choice of tour dates and times.

“Life is like riding a bicycle. In order to keep your balance, you must keep moving.” Albert Einstein.
Einstein was right about lots of things, including this! We will have you riding confidently in no time. Our bikes are comfortable, stable and easy to ride, making your return to cycling that much smoother. Unfortunately, we do not have the time to teach you from the beginning, so please only book on tour if you are comfortable riding a bike. If it has been awhile, we recommend heading out for a ride on your own in your home town before coming on tour.
Our tours are far from the Tour de France. We ride at a leisurely pace, on flat terrain, on protected bike lanes with plenty of stops for stories, snacks & photos. Though you will see much more of Paris & Versailles than you would on foot our bikes make it effortless and enjoyable.
Just as your sleep is only as good as your mattress, your ride is only as good as your bike. We searched the world for the perfect bikes and landed on a fleet by Pashley & local French suppliers, all fully adjustable and in a range of colours & sizes.
What about children’s bikes?
For the littlest of tour patrons, we have a range of kids bikes for riders as young as 7. For those who cannot reach the pedals we offer a child seat or tandem, just let us know when you book and we will have it ready for you on the day.
Yes. In France there is no legal requirement for adults to wear a helmet when cycling but we do of course provide them for those who would like one. However, French law requires cyclists under 12 years old to wear a helmet & we enforce this rule on all our bike tours.
Our guides love a challenge, and we have many secrets up our sleeve to make a rainy day as memorable and fun as a sunny day in Paris or Versailles. We have classy jackets to keep you dry, and know all the secret spots to take shelter in. As our head guide, Stu, likes to say, “the harder it rains, the more memorable it will be…”.
A bonus for our Versailles tours, as our guides are licensed and therefore authorized to guide you inside, we can spend more time exploring all the hidden corners inside the monuments on the less beautiful days.
Of course! We regularly have families join us with younger riders and it is often a holiday highlight. Our guides have a talent for presenting the tour in a way that entertains and captivates all ages, and a day out with Boutique Tours offers the perfect mix of family fun and French history.
For the Versailles tours, we can fully accommodate younger riders, we have children’s bikes, baby seats, tandems, helmets the lot. Our fleet of bikes ensures that children from the age of 7 can easily keep up on our tour. For under 7s, simply let us know your preference when you book, and we will have a tandem or child seat ready for you on the day. If your family needs any other extra assistance please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Comfortable casual clothes for cycling and comfortable shoes for walking. You can leave the lycra & the high heels at home! Please do keep an eye on the weather and dress accordingly.
It is almost as if Versailles was designed with our bike tour in mind. The majority of our ride takes place within the Royal Gardens, where we can enjoy stress-free cycling, far from the traffic and crowds. Outside of the gardens, cycle paths weave their way throughout the town and are set on the footpaths, away from traffic.
We meet at a café in central Paris: Le Paris Montparnasse Café, 43 Avenue du Maine, 75014 Paris.
The café is across the road from Gare Montparnasse train station, which has excellent metro connections on lines 6, 12, 4 & 13. We recommend using the app CityMapper to best navigate the metro while you are in Paris, it is free to download & you can save journeys to use offline. Input the exact address to avoid any confusion – there are a few cafés with similar names! Do feel free to come earlier for a coffee & croissant to kick start your day.
Once in Versailles we saddle up on bikes that are stored at our base in Versailles.
Of course. All our tours of Versailles include a guided tour of the Palace with a fully licensed member of our team. We do not abandon you with an audio guide. We use earpieces so you can hear your guide, can ask questions & don’t miss a thing! If there is one Palace in the world to visit, this is the one!
We limit our group sizes to 12 riders per group in Versailles to keep you safe, cover more ground & offer a personalised experience.
