The Ultimate Guide to the Best Restaurants in Paris

15 classic french dishes to try

Best Restaurants in Paris 2024: Boutique’s Foodie Favourites

As travelers ourselves, we love the sensation of discovering new places and cultures, and food is often at the very center of these experiences.

One of the most common questions we’re asked by our guests on tours is, “Where shall I go to eat amazing food in Paris?”

This is especially true in Paris, where the art of sitting down and watching people go by while sipping on wine is very much alive. Renowned for its culinary scene, Paris is home to many distinctive dining establishments owned by celebrity chefs, such as Cyril Lignac, as well as family-owned independent bistros that attract both locals and tourists.

Families and friends gather around traditional Sunday lunch, meet in cafes, or picnic in the park after work—food and hanging out are essential parts of the fabric of French culture.

To help you navigate Paris’ incredible foodscape, we’re excited to share some of our favorite places so you can fully enjoy what Paris has to offer and join the true Parisian flâneurs in their libations!

Enjoying a meal at Pied Au Cochon in Paris, France

A Few Tips for Food-Driven Adventures

Markets

The open-air markets in Paris are truly something special; by law, every arrondissement (or ‘district’) of the city must host two market days a week! You can find all hours and locations for these markets at Les Marches Parisiens, where you will also find addresses for flea markets (Marché aux puces) and specialty collectors’ markets (like Marché au timbre). Many markets also offer a selection of natural wines that pair well with fresh produce.

Reservations

For sit-down places, we recommend calling ahead or making a reservation online beforehand, especially if you’re trying to book a spot for the weekend. If they don’t take reservations, arrive at opening time; Parisians tend to eat late, so spots won’t likely fill up until 8:30 PM.

Tipping

Tipping can be a bit of a challenge for people visiting Paris. The rule of thumb is that if you enjoyed your meal and service, you can leave a small tip to say thank you; however, these are not mandatory and are considered a nice gesture in French culture. For higher-end restaurants and experiences, we recommend leaving a small tip, anywhere between 10-50€ should be appropriate.
